Taiwanese Ladies Flock to Bangkok

From Islaformosa, 2 year ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Admittedly, I got suckered into it. I spent almost a week of my 20 days in Thailand in Bangkok - shopping! Westerners typically think of Thailand as a beach resort destination (think Phuket and Phi Phi Island) for fun in the sun and sea, not to mention getting a tan. It soon became clear for me that there was only so much sand, sun and sea that my Taiwanese wife could take. You see, Taiwan's upwardly mobile city girls mostly aspire to have lily white skin (there is a reason for this since... Read more

Air Asia Makes its Mark

From Islaformosa, 2 year ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

AirAsia is Asia's discount airline. It's been making waves here in Taiwan with its cheap flights.I was surprised to see this commercial on CNN featuring Air Asia. It's bizarre in many aspects. Its narrated by a boy who talks about how his granny couldn't decide which meal to eat so she had both. Oh, and she says that the stewardesses are hot. Watch it to the end to see the nice ass shot which I'm sure will prompt travelers to take more delicious stewardess shots in flight. This ad would never... Read more

BUNGY: TO JUMP OR NOT TO JUMP

From James Tung's Bulletin Board, 2 year ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Kawarau Suspension Bridge, New Zealand is the place where bungy jump began. It has been more than 20 years since 1988. I only saw this exciting sports in TV before and never thought I would have a chance to try it.Till the previous night of visiting the first commercial bungy site in the world, I was still not sure I wanted to do it. In the morning, Jane reminded me to wear contact lenses Read more

finds: new taichung food and art places | part one: elephant

From Jar of Buttons, 1 year ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

In three parts, I will post a feast of images from two of my current favourite places in Taichung. I’ve taken photos inside an old covered market that has been converted into artist spaces and shops, all independently run, and inside Elephant, an awesome teensy restauant with probably the best (and cheapest) Western-style food in Taichung. Elephant has everything from risottos to pastas (including a lot of vegetarian fare) to chips with gravy and cheese to fish and chips (yes!). I finally... Read more

Keelung to Taipei in 01:03 (???????????????????)

From Jeff's Taiwan , 3 year ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

I've long taken to cycling around Keelung as a primary - rather than alternative - mode of transportation. With the exception of winters, which do get unpleasantly damp and dreary, the city and its immediate periphery are not just cyclable, but compact and ?visually interesting' - prompting feelings that many more people, with two good legs and an agenda not callling for heavy shopping, should Read more

Historic Forts and Batteries (?????)

From Jeff's Taiwan , 4 year ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Its natural deep sea anchorage and proximity to Taipei made Keelung of vital strategic importance to Taiwan's rulers for nearly two centuries. Today, while a few hilltop military posts remain manned (with at least one topped by a prominent battery of antiaircraft missiles), most former strongholds have been abandoned to weekend hikers, gardeners, fast growing vegetation ... or some combination of Read more

More from Double Ninth

From Josh in Taiwan, 1 year ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

With the rain being sent our way from Typhoon Megi (though not the typoon itself – that’s pretty far south), I’m not sure if I’ll get the camera outside of the apartment this weekend. ?This is a shame, but might give me some time to look at other older photos and probably give the D5000 a good cleaning. Below are ?some more shots from Double Ninth. While I think the above photo’s framing could be more dramatic, I liked the contrasts put on by this ancient Chinese... Read more

Taiwan Cycle, Day 4

From Down in Tainan, 2 year ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Now this will be a very short post. When we began cycling, two things were immediately apparent. Firstly, the sun was gone, hidden behind cloud. This was a kind of blessing as it made the day a lot cooler. However, it also meant that sometime later in the week, the rain would come. And secondly, we were riding into the wind, and we would be riding into it all the way north. We knew before we began the trip that the wind on the east coast would be against us, but I don't think none of us... Read more
