Yangon: A Walk to Botataung Paya and Monk's Robe Weavers Encounter

From Ironwulf.net: En route, 5 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Botataung, the Paya of 1000 Leaders Maps are my best friend when I'm exploring a new place. Starting from where I am, the Motherland Inn 2, I asked the girl at the reception for the location of the Thian Phyu Money Changer Center on the map and found out it was about 3 blocks south west. Since I don't have any kyat yet, I just decided to walk. Besides, exploring on-foot is the usual way for me to get to know the city. Botataung Paya is on the way so it might be a good place for a side... Read more

Room 205 at Motherland Inn 2 As always, the first step when coming in to a new country is adapting. And this process can be an ease or a struggle depending on our initial encounters with the locals. And it couldn't be any easier when the place you're staying is already used to foreigners like Motherland Inn 2 in Yangon. It's like a backpacker's haven in this part of the country since most foreigners go here and there's a good reason why. Facade of Motherland Inn 2 Booking and Airport... Read more

A Vintage Hino Mini-Bus as my airport service There are no direct flights to Yangon, Myanmar from the Philippines so I had to make a couple of flights to get there. First step was to get Bangkok, the closest possible airport to Yangon. I was lucky to get a cheap flight there through an introductory promo fare from Seair/Tiger Airways from Clark. On the rainy morning of November 2, 2011, I made my way to Megamall which is only 15 minutes from home. The Philtranco Bus (P400) headed to Clark was... Read more

Myanmar: Trip Preparation, Visa Application and Money Matters

From Ironwulf.net: En route, 5 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Myanmar trip memorabilia Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, has been on my eyes for several years now as I've heard a lot of good things about the country. The numerous temples as far as the eyes can see on the horizon in Bagan, the tranquil scenes of Inle Lake and the Grandeur of Shwedagon Pagoda has much been written in books. But even as a member of the ASEAN group of countries, Myanmar isn't as easy to visit like its neighbours due to its political isolation. A visit to Myanmar requires... Read more

Kuala Lumpur: From Sepang to the 33rd Floor High Sky Bar

From Ironwulf.net: En route, 5 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

The Sky Bar at 33rd Floor Traders Hotel The Sepang International Circuit gave the much needed adrenaline rush but we had some down time by the sea when we had our lunch at the Golden Palm Tree Resort at the Sepang Goldcoast. It's a beautiful 5-star resort ran by the Swiss-Belhotel group. Its stilt-house like accommodations is eye-catching but what caught my attention was the tasteful lunch buffet they had from the Indian Tandoori to the delectable desserts. It gave enough fuel for our Go Kart... Read more

Selangor: Burning Rubber at Sepang International Circuit

Sepang Go Kart Race (Photo by Jojo Vitug) I hit the gas hard this time and feel the rush of the engine at my back. I'm going the fastest as I can, making sure I stay in front of the pack in this track. It was the third and final round of our go kart race with the other media pips and we're being timed like how professional GPs are done. Then suddenly from behind another car zoomed past me. What the'! We were heading on a sharp bend on the track and I watched how smoothly my competition... Read more

Flight Simulation at AirAsia Academy So you wanna be a pilot' Sometime when I was growing up, I had that dream of becoming a pilot (okay, next to being an astronaut). I mean who wouldn't' You can fly across the globe and I heard the pay was good too. But of course reality took stride and I had gone to the creative work instead, but no regrets there. There's always that bit of curiosity on what's it's like to be a pilot. Does one need a brilliant handling of math (since I'm bad at math) to... Read more

AirAsia Aircraft ?We Plan to have AirAsia in every ASEAN country' says Zamal Ahmad, the Regional Head of Customer Experience of AirAsia in Malaysia during a short talk in their office. I was sitting on a bean bag surrounded by a few stuffed angry bird dolls and some tall stools for sitting. The meeting room was definitely a ground where playful imagination and ideas can run around. Must be why AirAsia had been successful as a low-cost carrier when it started ? they were having fun doing... Read more
