A Cyclist's Paradise in the Heart of Bangkok

From Thai Blogs, 8 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

There are not too many places in Bangkok where cyclists can go with their bicycle and feel safe. It is true that the BMA have built more cycling lanes around the city but many of these are either blocked by parked cars or are being used by motorcyclists. I know we shouldn’t complain as they are at least making an effort to make Bangkok a haven for cyclists. Indeed, the Bangkok Governor has been very supportive of the monthly Car Free Sunday events that have been taking place over the... Read more

Cycle Ride in Bangkok with Follow Me Bike Tours

From Thai Blogs, 8 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

If you are looking for some different to do in Bangkok then you should look no further than cycle tours. To many people, it probably still seems strange to suggest to go on a bike tour in Bangkok. Apart from the heat and pollution you also have bad traffic congestion. On the surface it doesn’t sound like fun, but in truth, bicycle tourism in Thailand is a fast growing market with new bike tour companies being set up all the time. Just take a look at the Top 10 of popular tours in Bangkok... Read more

Jesada Technik Museum in Nakhon Pathom

From Thai Blogs, 8 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Literally in the middle of no-where, in Nakhon Chaisi District of Nakhon Pathom Province, there is a sprawling private transport museum for lovers of any vehicles, both on land and in the air.? This large collection of vehicles can be found at Jesada Technik Museum and is the brainchild of Mr. Jesada Deshsakulrith, a Thai businessman. The museum first opened to the public in 2004 though Jesada bought his first vehicle back in 1997. I was completely lost when I stumbled upon this red double... Read more

Pomelo Festival in Thailand

From Thai Blogs, 8 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

One of my favourite fruits found in Thailand is the Pomelo, which is the largest of the citrus fruit family. In some ways it is a bit like a grapefruit, though of course larger, and is also often sweeter. However, it has a thick skin and rind pith. Although I do enjoy eating this fruit, it is certainly no fun to peel it yourself. It can be quite time-consuming. To give you an idea, a youtube video that I found that shows you how to peel a pomelo is nearly five minutes long! The best thing to... Read more

Bicycling in Thailand

From Thai Blogs, 9 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

For a few years now I have been thinking about buying a bicycle. I used to ride them a lot when I was a kid but I have hardly done any riding since I have been in Thailand. In many ways, the area where I live in Samut Prakan is ideal for cycling as it is flat, much like the rest of Central Thailand. However, I guess what was putting me off the most was the danger involved in cycling. Most fatal road accidents involve motorcycles and as bicycles are lower down on the pecking order then it makes... Read more

Bicycle Ride during ?Bangkok Car Free Sunday 2?

From Thai Blogs, 9 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

On Sunday I took part in the 2nd Bangkok Car Free Sunday event. The purpose, as before, was to promote the use of the bicycle as an alternative mode of transport in Bangkok. I must say I was very nervous about cycling in Bangkok the first time. However, I am now used to it and I would recommend it to anyone. It is a great way to get around to explore the city. You don’t get stuck in traffic jams, you can go down one way streets the wrong way and, best of all, you can stop and park your... Read more

My Top 10 Favourite Thai Festivals

From Thai Blogs, 9 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Over the years I have seen some really great Thai festivals. This is a list of my Top 10 favourites in no particular order. Loy Krathong Festival (1) As the full moon of the twelfth lunar month (usually in mid-November) lights up the night sky, throughout the Thai kingdom, hundreds of thousands of ornately-decorated krathong or traditional banana leaf floats are set adrift in rivers and waterways in a spell-binding ritual called “Loy Krathong” – the ‘festival of... What to Expect if you have to go to a Thai Court

From Thai Blogs, 9 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

When?I was younger, I once sat on the jury of a murder trial. It lasted for about seven days. I had always been fascinated by courtroom dramas and after watching ?Twelve Angry Men' I fancied myself as Head Juror. Alas, I was only 19 at the time and no-one voted me for that position. Although it was a serious case, I did enjoy my time listening to the arguments of the prosecution and defence. In Thailand, the Courts of Justice don't quite work in the same way. In the Criminal Courts, there are... Read more

What to expect if you are invited to a Thai Funeral

From Thai Blogs, 9 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

The longer that you stay in Thailand, the higher the chance is that you will one day be invited to a funeral. This might be for the parent of a colleague at work or a relation of your Thai wife or husband. I am not exactly an expert on Thai funerals, but I have attended a fair number. I have also been invited, strange as it may seem, to take pictures at funerals. Like this group photo in the first picture. For this particular funeral I had to take dozens of pictures of various groups posing in... Read more
